Why doesn't the instructions for "Set the default font" work?

I'm using Word 2003. My template font for normal is setup for Times New
Roman, but when I check the font using "Format, Font" it shows it as Times
even though it displays it as Times New Roman in the font window. This is
true for all my templates. Shouldn't I be able to permanently change the
font?

Is Adobe Acrobat 7.0 installed on the computer? If yes, then the
Acrobat 7.0 Create Adobe PDF toolbar add-in for Word prevents
Word from automatically saving changes to the normal.dot template
(which is where the default font information is stored). See
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331259.html for several
solutions to the problem.

I did not yet figure out how to start a new thread. My issue is that I can
not find the normal.dot file in Word 2002. I believe I made some changes to
it and would like it back to the default. I should only have to delete it and
Word will recreate the default. BUT I can not find it!
Thanks for any help,

In Word, click on Tools | Options | File Locations, and note the
folder designated for User Templates. That is the folder where
your Normal.dot template is stored. In some versions of Office
and Windows, the file and folder are hidden, so you have to turn
on display of hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer or My
Computer by clicking on Tools | Folder Options | View tab | click
the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button | OK.

I have a problem which I'm sure has an easy solution. I wanted to set up my
email using Word as the editor. I successfully did that but I have no clue as
to how to set all the defaults for text and colors, etc. My theme remains the
same but everything else changes when I go to type a new message. I don't
know if I'm just plain STUPID or crazy? :) I don't find a place for setting a
default for additional e-mails.
