I think I've tried everything I possibly can and am becoming really
frustrated. I've followed the instructions which simply sayon your document
choose an insert point, on the Forms toolbar click the Text Form Field buttom
(which inserts {Formtext }), select your options, press the protection
button, save your template, run a new document from your template amd you
should get a box that asks you to enter some text. No such luck, all i get
when i run the template is some grey and black boxes into which I can type
nothing. Shouldn't i get a window popping up asking me for information in
any event or is a little highlight of grey all you get? Can anyone please
give me some help.

Are you sure the document is protected for forms? You should be able to tab
from one field to the next and enter data. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/FillinTheBlanks.htm and especially
the forms tutorials by Dian Chapman that this article links to.

Thanks so much for your help. That at least solves the fact that I should
only be looking for grey boxes. Is there no way, however, to have a pop up
window that asks the question and saves the answer to a bookmark?

Also, think hard about this: If there are more than two or three
popups, they get to be very tiresome. A better alternative is a
userform (http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Userforms/CreateAUserForm.htm)
that pops up once; you fill in all the fields in one place, click the
OK button, and it puts the answers into all the bookmarks.

I know I've taken a long time to say thank you but thank you for all your
help all the same.
