Why doesn't my e-mail notification work?/Can't access "Apply" on T

Switched from 2002 to 2003 Outlook. Under Tools, when I click on 'show an
envelope icon in the notification area', then click OK until I get to the
main Tools menu, the 'Apply' icon is not available. Also, is it true that
this envelope icon notification will only apply to items directly in the
"Inbox" folder, and not to items in other folders, or in folders below the
"Inbox" folder?

Of course not. You didn't change anything on the page where the Apply
button appears. Because you clicked OK, however on the Tools>Options>E-mail
Options>Advanced E-mail Options page when you checked the option, it has
been saved.

folders, or in folders below the "Inbox" folder?

I believe that's true.
