Why doesn't Defender Beta 2 like my Outlook 2003 startup shortcut?

Every time I reboot, Defender Beta 2 pops up a ?changed question mark about
the shortcut to Outlook 2003 that I have in my personal (rather than 'All
Users') startup folder. I accept the default handling of this ('Allow') and
dismiss it, only to have the same sequence next time I reboot. This is
getting a little irritating. I notice that others have seen similar symptoms
with different programs. I know that there are people who don't trust
Microsoft software (and Outlook, in particular), but I wouldn't expect
Microsoft to be among them!!

Hello Peter,

go in WD/tools/advanced (scroll to the window) browse with the browse
option to your Link and add him.
This will do the trick.

It would make sense if that worked. Unfortunately, it doesn't! There is
another wierdness, too. When I browse to the file, its full pathname is
C:\Documents and Settings\Peter\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Microsoft Office
Outlook 2003.lnk
The name that WD picks up and stores is
C:\Windows\Installer\{91E30409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}\outicon.exe
I take it that the latter is the link's target (Office links are always
wierd), but WD is still unhappy on startup.

Hello Peter,

yes, you are right, if you add a .lnk then WD go's to the .exe where the
..lnk map go's.
I did not try a .lnk before, a pitty! ;)

Tom,
I'm also having this problem, and I don't understand you last answer. Is
there a workaround for this or not?

OK, there are two types of shortcut link being discussed here. The one
to outicon.exe is a MSI shortcut that was created by the Office
installer when you installed Outlook. It functions differently to
standard file shortcuts in that it invokes the Office installer when
starting Outlook to verify that the installation is OK (e.g., to
install advertised features if necessary and to repair missing files,
etc.).

I suspect that what you might have done to create your 'personal'
Outlook startup item was to have copy/pasted the MSI shortcut and, for
some reason, WD does not like this. Try deleting the 'personal'
shortcut and manually create a new one that points directly to your
outlook.exe file (which by default is in C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office11).

You were correct that I copied the nonstandard Outlook shortcut. Using
a direct shortcut instead seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for
the tip!

I'm having the same problem with Adobe Acrobat. The start up speed launcher is a .ink format, tried everything. I deleted the start up file, only to have Acrobat reinstall it. Everytime I reboot, WD jumps up and down.
