Defender 'defends' too well but doesn't know why

(1) Defender is unable to identify accurately ANY programs - including
commonly used ones like McAfee and Registry First Aid. it even tags Microsoft
programs as 'unknown'. When will this 'ignorance' be corrected?

(2) Why does it not saw WHAT program caused a warning? It shows WHERE the
link is, but there are a lot meaningless numbers under HKLM|Software... How
can I figure out what Defender wants to delete? It has already quarantined MS
Messenger (both 7.5 AND Beta), Cubis Gold 2, two add-ins for Photoshop, and
the NS toolbar weather. It mis-diagnosed so many standard software programs,
I just tell it to 'accept' everything and run Spy Sweeper to find out if
there really is spyware on my system!

(3) Every time it runs, Defender tells me I have a medium threat potential
hijack program' but doesn't tell me what it is! How can I find out?

Since MS does not offer support, I am about ready to uninstall the program.
Unfortunately, my guess is that we will end up with Defender soon enough and
the only way it will get better is if I keep working with it. So will someone
tell me WHAT it's doing and how to fix it, WHAT it wants to quarantine, WHY I
have a hijack program (undetected by Spy Sweeper), and HOW to get it to leave
Cubis alone?
