Why does Word 2003 not erase selected text when you start typing?

In older versions of Word (and all other Microsoft Programs), when you
selected text with the mouse that you wanted to replace and then you started
typing on the keyboard it would replace the selected text with what you are
typing. Word 2003 keeps the old text and just adds what you are typing.
This is so frustrating.

Try Tools --> Options --> Edit tab and make sure the "Typing Replaces
Selection" box is checked.

Hi Ryan,

check

Tools, Options, Edit,
