Why does Word 2003 close when using Outlook 2003?

I am using Office 2003 on a Windows XP machine. Word 2003 sometimes closes
down when I click on New message in Outlook 2003. However this does not
happen every time. Does anyone know how I can cure this?
 
Have you done updates for office? Also try doing a detect and repair
