Why does Powerpoint hang when mouse scroll wheel is used?

Has anyone experienced Powerpoint 2000 "freezing" when using the scroll wheel
on their mouse? It occurs every time I use Powerpoint and it is not always
possible to resolve it without closing the application via the Task manager.
If anyone else has experienced this and found a way to stop it occurring,
please enlighten me!

It hasn't happened here in either Normal or Slide Show mode. That's with a
Logitech wireless. My Wacom Intuos doesn't scroll at all in any version of
PowerPoint, so my guess is that it's dependent on the driver.

I used to have problems when using Page Up and Page Down while in chart edit
mode. In PowerPoint 2000 I think...maybe it's related (as the scroll wheel
behaves like Page Up and Page Down in PP) but I can't remember all the
circumstances.

I just tried to make it happen in 2000 & 97 with a chart in edit mode and it
scrolls the data table very nicely, so I must not have the specific set of
conditions here.

It behaves differently if the chart's datasheet is closed and the chart or some
object w/in it is selected. Here in 2003, MSGraph then doesn't "see" the
scrollwheel, PPT does and jumps to the next/previous slide (where MSGraph
apparently sees and traps PageUp/PageDown because they don't have any effect
while editing the chart itself)

Ugh. Probably why I just don't bother with the scroll wheel. Seems to behave
differently in every app - - or not at all.
