Why does outlook think I am offline?

I am using a DSL modem. I can surf the net and view any website I want to
but when I open outlook, It says I am not online. I can check my e-mail thru
the ISP's site but not thru outlook. This is having the same effect on my
antivirus software. It will not run live update because it thinks I am off
line too. I have contacted the Tech. supprt for my ISP and have not gotten
any good results.
 
Did you look to see if you set Outlook to work offline?
You failed to post your Outlook version. Not a good move when you're
asking for help.
Look in your File menu.
