Why does my Outlook lock up & disappear?

At times when after I close Outlook (using Office 2000) if I click on the
icon to bring it up again it won't appear. Even with the Start Menu or
otherwise I can't get it to open. When I bring up the Task Manager it shows
no programs running yet when I go to re-boot I get a message that Outlook.exe
is running & needs to shut down. The only way to get it back is to re-boot
completely. Help it's driving me crazy! (I have Windows XP by the way)

The Outlook process is being held open for some reason. The solution is to
find what is holding it open. It might be an add-in or Active Synch or ....
The "quick fix" is to use Knockout to terminate the process.
