Why does my My Computer Window open when I log in?

Operating System Win XP HOME with SP2. Ever since I installed Microsoft
Active Sync 4.21. Whenever I log onto my pc the My Computer Window opens in
up. I have looked at the solutions to a similar problem people have had in
that The System32 folder open when I log in. But nothing works. I even
uninstalled Microsoft ActiveSync but the problem is still there.
I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything again. Everything OK
until I installed Microsoft ActiveSync.

Can anybody please help This problem is very annoying me.
Thanks

This is caused if one of the startup entries are not formatted correctly in
the registry.

Download Startup Tracker application from this page:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_starttrack.htm

Launch the program, and click the "View log" button. Post the contents of
the log file here.

Hi,

No, it's not a virus. StartupTracker program was written by a long-standing
MVP, and is most trusted. I'm using (and also recommend) the program for
years. The virus alert you saw in your system may be due to the fact that
the StartupTracker program uses scripting runtimes, and the virus alerts are
generic in this case (Some agressive AV products block/warn when any scripts
are run).

Hi Ramesh, I downloaded the program from the website below. After unzipping
it, I tried to run it and my virus checker said the program was a virus.
Can
you tell me were to look in the registery to fix this problem. I have
searched on the internet and just cannot find anything to sort out the
problem.

Hi,

There are too many registry locations for startup, and that's the reason I
preferred an utility. Look at this article for the list of startup launch
points:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/startup.htm

See also:

No idea. Perhaps you can try closing the running applications (mainly the
anti-virus/scriptblockers) temporarily to test. Alternately, you can use
another utility mentioned in my previous post.

I have used the AUTORUN application from Microsoft's web site. One of the
applications you mentioned in your previous post. It does list things that
start up after log in. But My Computer Window is not mentioned. If I type in
MSCONFIG after logging in. The application running is explorer.exe
Any ideas now
