Why does my mouse unpredictably start scrolling horizontally?

When I am working in Excel 2003, all of a sudden after working for a time in
a worksheet and scrolling up and down with my mouse wheel, the cursor will
start scrolling horizontally instead of vertically when I use my wheel. This
occurs even whithout pressing down on the wheel.

The only way I have figured out to "fix" it temporarily is to save and close
the file and then reopen it. This is only a temporary "fix" and is extremely
annoying.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to give it a permanent fix?

Thanks,
Ken

Check if there is a newer version of the mouse driver and if so install it I
have never heard of this problem but mostlky mouse problems have are driver
related

Hi Ken,
I don't know if it was your question but a very similar question was asked elsewhere
in this group which I read a few minutes ago. Surprised me because if this is the
ghosting problem then I'd have to say that while it still crops up once in a while it
is certainly not a prevalent as it once was. First check the status bar for ADD or
EXT if you see either hit F8 once or twice; otherwise, see
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/ghosting.txt

If is probably the drivers as Peo stated. But I would also suggest changing
the mouse wheel button to ENTER, which even if it doesn't solve anything is a
much better option. Post back in a couple days as to what you did and if the
problem recurred.
