Why does everyone say burn at 1/2x??

Ok, my point is, unless your using a old dvd burner that's first/second
generation there are none now that will burn less than 4x unless you use a
older dvd rewritable disc then you might get 2.4x. On modern burners, the
slowest speed stated in specs is hardware encoded so if your software claims
1x it's still burning at 4x.

I agree with you. I believe there are more "bad" DVD's because people do
not understand that they have downloaded an ISO dvd image file and their dvd
burning software reads that file to create a bootable disc. Either their
software automatically identifies that it is an ISO file or they have to
tell the software to create a disc from that ISO image. My Sonic software
automatically asked me if I wanted to create a disc from the ISO file. I'd
bet that the actual percentage of bad burns is much lower than the number of
people that don't know how to burn a dvd from an iso.

I burned at MaxSpeed setting but it only burned at about 6x (or 16x?) -
Maxwell R+ blank in a Plextor 716A. Most people don't bother to buy the
brand of blank DVD recommended by the DVD Writer manufacturer - hence slower
speeds to avoid errors and coasters.
