Why Does Defender always do this?

Every time I boot, I get the exact same message from Defender asking me what
I want to do about this file:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\Adobe
Acrobat Speed Launcher.lnk

I ALWAYS tell it allowed, yet it never remembers.
Why?
What am I missing?

Hi Neil,
I am using Adobe Reader 7.0.8 & have no trouble with WD identifying it as a
potential problem. (I also have Adobe Reader SpeedLaunch in the Startup
Folder)
Double click on Windows Defender to bring up the Home page, then click on
"Software Explorer" and look in the Start Up Programs category. I have 2
entries for Adobe (the Speed Launcher & the Gamma Loader). Both are "allowed"
by WD.
If yours say under the "Category" Not Yet Classified or something similar,
you might consider uninstalling completely the Adobe Reader, then downloading
the latest version AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe (20MB), which WD should recognize
and "Allow"
Hope that's helpful.

Thanks John,.

I'll probably uninstall the reader altogether - don't really need it as I
have bought Acrobat Professional 7 now.

It is indeed claiming to be "Not yet Classified".

I've seen this issue posted before, and don't understand it. I've got
dozens of machines with Adobe reader 7 installed and regularly updated--now
on 7.08 as I recall--and I've never seen this--so I don't know what is
happening that is causing the alert--I wonder whether there is some
"innoculation" by some other security software or antivirus that might be
creating the change that Windows Defender is complaining about.

I see the same with Forte Agent. Defender asks over and over about the
same thing. It's annoying (I'm very near uninstalling Defender now :)

The more general fix that may work is to go to tools, options (or settings,
depending on version) scroll down to advanced options (or settings!)--and
find a large open box with an add button beside it--hit that button and
attempt to exclude the executable or path involved from scanning.

The Cisco VPN client does same thing too since the first version. Very
annoying. But The old MS antispyware works great! For a while longer anyway.
Sure hope WD gets its act together before the MS antispyware expires in July.
