I have a professionally done resume created in Word. When i cut and paste,
or attach the resume, the document does not match the original. I see
extraneous marks, characters, etc. Why is this and what can be done about it?

Hi Ladyboomer

Can you be a bit more specific?

In general: When you bring in a paragraph from one document to the
other, Word doesn't "see" the same as you do.

While you might see a paragraph in Arial 11 pt, for Word it is much
rather in style Normal (which is set to 12 pt) with a font size 11 pt
set as direct formatting.

If Normal is defined as Times New Roman 10 pt in the document where you
copy to, you will normally get a paragraph in Times New Roman in 12 pt.
Not what you expected maybe, but this is how it should be.

You can use Edit | Paste Special to paste as raw text, for instance
(then the style at the position where you insert it is boss).
