why does a bullet appear between words when I use space bar?

I had to replace my keyboard on my Inspiron 5100 and now when I type in Word,
I get a bullet point between all words when I hit the space bar. So, instead
of getting a space, it displays a bullet point between each word. Can this be
corrected?

It's not a bullet, it's a non-printing character that indicates there's a
space in there.

(Some of us can't work without them.)

I'm one of those people. The nonprinting marks don't clutter the screen; it
is empty without them. :)

Same here. I can (and often do) proofread without nonprinting characters,
but when I really feel at sea is when I look at a page without text
boundaries!

That's a feature I don't use. How could it help me?

Well, for one thing it means that you'll not only see the page margins but
also the outlines of any text boxes or frames even if they're borderless and
not selected. This can be extremely helpful in troubleshooting issues such
as that described at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UnaccountablyIndented.htm. I know that
text boundaries are not for everyone, but I'm so used to seeing them that
working on a totally blank page makes me very uneasy.
