Why do hyperlinks change in attached documents

I work on a company network. When I create a document stored on a network
drive that contains hyperlinks to other documents stored on that same drive
and then attach the 1st document in an Outlook message, all the hyperlinks
are changed to my C drive under Temporary Internet
Files\OLK78\developer-install.doc (there's more at the front of the directory
but I doubt it's relevant to the problem)

I must then open the attachment in Outlook and reset all the hyperlinks.
This is BIG TROUBLE

That depends on how the links were create; relative or absolute paths. When
you are going to relocate the document you should always create absolute
paths.
