Why do deleted messages reappear in the Inbox?

Outlook is not set to leave a copy of messages on the server, but messages
are repeatedly resent to the Inbox after being deleted.
 
Version of Outlook?
Type of account?
In case of POP3; logon to the webbased version of your mailbox provided by
your ISP and see if the messages are actually deleted there.
