Why did the color of Commented text change from orange to purple?

Yesterday when I powered down, the highlighted text attached to Comments in a
Word 2003 document were as they had always been: orange. The morning when I
opened the same document, the highlight color is light purple, as is the
identifying header of each Comment in the Reviewing Pane.

I don't mind the color. I just worry that this might be seemingly innocuous
evidence of a brewing problem.

Thanks for any help/ciomments.

That's the first thing I checked. The selected color is labeled "by author"
and is top-half red/bottom-half blue.

The color has now reverted to its original shade. A .tmp file had appeared
on my desktop and refused to be deleted. To get rid of it, I closed Word.
When I opened Word again, the color was back to normal. Go figure.

PS. when I said "orange" in my original post, I really should have said
"orangish-pink." I've never been great with colors
