Why can't Photo Gallery find my HP Laserjet?

I like Windows Photo Gallery in Vista Home Basic--its quite a bit smoother to
use and I can even make minor edits, which is nice. I do have one problem:
printing.

I have an HP Laserjet 1018 and when I try to print a photo displayed in
Photo Gallery, the only option is XPS or something like that. What do I have
to do to get Windows Photo Gallery to see my printer? It is obviously
installed and I have no problems printing from Word, etc. This is the only
printer I have, and yes it is the default printer.

Under Printer: click in the list box and select your printer. It defaults to
XPS but there is more printers when you click in the list box.

My printer wasn't listed in the list of printers within Photo Gallery. I
clicked on the option to install printers, but (like I said, even though my
laserjet is already functioning well in other programs such as MS Word) for
some reason, at this point, WIndows couldn't even find my laser printer. At
this point, I'm just going to use picasa to print photos, because I can
print, from that program but it seems kind of silly that the default program
can't do it. Oh well.
