Why can't M.O.not sign/encrypt message to send from my e-mail?

When I try to send or forward a message I get this error:
Microsoft Outlook could not sign or encrypt this message because you have no
certificates which can be used to send from the e-mail address
(e-mail address removed)

What can I do to be able to send and forward messages?

unclick the option to sign or encrypt the message (should be a tool bar
button - if not, look in the options when composing) or get a certificate
for that address.
