Encrypt or digitally sign messages

I have installed Verisign's 60-day trail Class 1 Digital ID. I am having
some problems however when sending out new emails.
I always receive back this error message in my Outlook 2002 (SP3).

Microsoft Outlook could not sign or encrypt this message because you have no
certificates which can be used to send from your e-mail address.

Now, this message only comes up when trying to send new email messages.
When I reply or forward emails to my intended recipient, everything works
fine.
I am not connected to an Exchange server, I pop in my emails from my ISP.

thanks in advance for any help

Andy,

In order to encrypt a message to somebody else you need THEIR public key.
That of course means they must get a Digital ID from somewhere like you did
and then they must send you their public, usually done by sending a plan text
email with the digital ID attached ( this contains their public key ).
You then add their digital id to your contact list entry for that person.
When next emailing to that person you then encrypt the email and
attachements. The recipient then uses ( automatically under the covers in
outlook) their private key to decrypt your message and attachments.

Free digital certificates available from www.cacert.org
