why can't I use detect and repair?

when I try to run detect and repair, I am asked for the office cd and it
tries to install something???? and then it spins for 5 minutes and then it
just says that it has completed the setup/

and that is that, never runs repair??? what to do?? and why doesn't it work

Not sure - is this the right CD? As in, if you're using Office XP Pro, you
aren't trying to use another non-Office-XP Pro CD?

If you go to add/remove programs, choose Office, can you reinstall it?

If you reinstall Office or Outlook, it should retain your settings & data
just fine. I'd make a backup copy of the PST file and put it somewhere for
safekeeping, though.

Not sure - is this the right CD? As in, if you're using Office XP
Pro, you aren't trying to use another non-Office-XP Pro CD?

If you go to add/remove programs, choose Office, can you reinstall
it?
