Why Can't I Ping

Have just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP Pro - am fully up to
date with all updates and fixes and am virus free.

However, when I try to use a dial-up connection and try to ping a particular
IP address then it times out (But I can ping the same address if I use the
same pc on my broadband connection.)

I'm getting something like a 50K connection confirmed on the dialup.

Any help on what I should do to try to isolate the problem would help.

TIA

sounds like routing issue. posting both connections router tables here may help. To do that use this command line, route print.

Running a Traceroute (tracert on Windows) -- If you are on a Windows 2k
or later machine, open a command prompt and then type "tracert
www.google.com" or "tracert any_ip_address" (substituting an IP
address, of course) or "tracert" any other domain or IP address. This
will send ICMP (ping) packets to every hop (router) between you and the
destination. This is helpful for determining where your trouble
begins. You should receive "replies" from each hop. If you receive a
" * " then that is where your packets are beginning to drop or fail.

Hope this helps.
