Why can't I open a Microsoft access file from my own website? Get.

I used the database interface wizard to create a database on our frontpage
supported site. I also used the sample database provided by microsoft. I
also imorted a database directly to the site. While I am able to place
theses databases on the web, I can't open them in access - when I try I get
this message "the file is located ourside your intranet or an untrusted site.
Microsoft access will not open the file due to potential security
progrbelms". I have no problems opening the files locally, but can't open
the web-based versions I need.

I've put my site on the trusted sites list in Internet explorer but this
didn't have an effect. What else should I try?

If you can't browse to the file from the standard windows explorer, then you
can't open the file. I repeat: if you cannot browse to the file via the
standard explorer, and then choose a drive letter, or go to network
neighborhood, and click your way to the file, then you CAN NOT open it.

You MUST be able to use the standard windows browsing to get to the file.

http, and ftp is NOT a network system, nor is it a file based system. So, in
effect you can't open word, or excel either (you can click on the document,
but in fact it downloads to YOUR computer, and THEN it is opened.

If you need to open the file on that other system, then you need to have
that disk drive on the other system "shared" so you can browse to the
directory, and then open the file. ftp, and Http do not have the ability to
"connect" two computers together. You need to be on the same network, or
using a VPN (virtual private network) to actually open the file. So, you
need a true network connection where you can access the files, printers etc
of that other computer.

Note that a vpn and high speed net is going to be rather slow here. You can
read about his here:
