why can't I install FP 2002 on my new laptop?

G

Guest

Hi,

I have a new laptop and am trying to install FP 2002. On my new laptop I
have Office 2003 and when I try to install FP 2002, I receive an error "You
do not have Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 or greater
installed. Please install IIS 4.0 or greater before installing the Server
Extensions."

Any ideas?

Thanks so much!

Are you installing FP itself or the FP Server Extensions? The server
extensions will require a web server to install on top of. In this case,
you'll need IIS 4 or better in order to install the server extensions. If
you're on XP Home Edition you cannot install the server extensions. XP Pro
and Win 2000 Pro can install IIS 5.x through the Control Panel \ Add/Remove
Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components and select IIS.

Hope this helps,

Sorry for my delayed reply. I never received an email notification that you
responded to my question.

Anyway, I am trying to install FP itself. And I just have Windows XP Home.
I think that I read on another post that FP 2002 is just an upgrade. Is that
true?

I do have Office that has Access, Excel, Word, etc. but not FP. Is that why
this upgrade isn't working.

Thanks for your quick response! I'll check sooner for another response.

There are no email replies that you have responses. You have to check back
in the newsgroup.

An upgrade will not work without a previous qualifying upgrade version.

I see an option that says "Notify me of replies" so I don't see why it
wouldn't notify me. Regardless, are you saying that FP 2002 is an upgrade?

I have Office 2003 so I would think FP 2003 comes with that. When I am in a
new office document, and click Help, System Information and drill down to FP
2003. It says it's not available. Is there something that I need to do to
make it available?

Thanks in advance,
Ann :)

One more comment...

The Office products that I seem to have are Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Access,
Outlook and Publisher. Why isn't FP there too?

FP2003 is a standalone application and doesn't come with any Office Suite, it must be purchased
separately.

What does your FP2002 CD say on the label or what is the exact error message when you attempt to
install?

The actual CD says "Version 2002 Upgrade". I didn't realize when installing
the new 2003 Office that I wouldn't be able to use Frontpage.

And when I try to install FP it first asks for my product key and then acts
like it's installing. Then it stops and says the following message:

"Setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product on your machine. Please
select the drive where a qualifying product can be found."

I also have Dreamweaver which I like better, but for uploading family photos
quickly, Frontpage is really easy even though it creates a lot of junk
folders and extraneous files.

Okay, so I got out my Office 2000 CD. After receiving the error about not
finding a qualifying application, I pointed it to my CD drive. And after a
moment, the following error appeared:

"ERROR 1305. Setup cannot read file d:\FP.msi. Check your connect to the
network, or CD-ROM Drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see
D:\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE10\1033\SETUP.HLP."

huh??

Does it matter that I did not install Office 2000 on this machine? I didn't
see a reason to do so since I have Office 2003 now. UGH! This is so
frustrating!!

Okay, so now I am trying to just install FP2000 from my Office 2000 CD but it
doesn't seem to let me just install FP. I am afraid that installing Office
2000 over 2003 will screw things up. I know it's "supposed" to remove old
versions but going backward may not be well tested.

What do you think?

You have to have the FrontPage 2000 CD or Office 2000 Premium? or Developer? Edition which included
FP

? = I don't remember which or if both version contained FP.

With MS applications, you do not need to install a prior version first in order to install an
upgrade version as long as you have the original media available for the prior version.

Because not all Office suites contained FP.
