Installation

I have a problem with FrontPage 2003.

I have installed it on my laptop, which is running XP Professional.

The problem is I cannot create a new web. I get an error message
which says...

Server error: Error 5 opening registry key "SOFTWARE\Classes\.aa3".

I have Installed IIS and used the .exe to install the FP 2002
extensions. I must have done something wrong. If there is not a
quick solution, could someone please post an explicit set of
instructions, including the order of doing things to get FP 2003
working, with the latest extensions on my laptop.

1. Uninstall IIS and the FP extensions.
2. Reboot
3. Install IIS and the FP2000 extensions from the Windows XP Pro CD.
4. Configure the extensions for the default web
5. Try opening http://localhost in FP via File Menu | Open Site

Now if everything is working you can then install the FP2002 extensions, but make sure you have all
of the patches, since you can not longer download the FP2002 extensions, unless you contact MS
Product Support.

How do I uninstall FP 2002 extensions? In my IIS (tthrough control
panel - add remove programs, windows apps.) I do not see the 2002
extensions just the 2000 ones?

Where do I get the necessary patches as i do not have internet access
from my laptop as I am away from home?

Many thanks for such a prompt reply to my initial message.

1. Then maybe the FP2002 extensions are not installed.

2. You can not longer download the FP2002 extensions unless you call MS Product Support and have
internet access.

What is the alternative if FP 2002 extensions are no longer
available? Is my FP 2003 'out of date'?

Is there an updated Product I should purchase?

The FP2000 extensions. FP2003 can use either the FP2000 or FP2002 extensions. If you have a web host
that has the extensions, then most likely they are the FP2002 extensions, so you are ok.

Thoams you advised:
1. Uninstall IIS and the FP extensions.
2. Reboot
3. Install IIS and the FP2000 extensions from the Windows XP Pro CD.
4. Configure the extensions for the default web
5. Try opening http://localhost in FP via File Menu | Open Site

I have follwed these steps and % words I am taken to My computer/Web
Folders/ localhost.

However when I now try to create a new one page web I get the
following:

First a dialog box appears saying:

Creating the Web "http://localhost/test

Immediately another dialog box appears over the top saying:

The Web Server at "http://localhost" does not appear to have Windows
SharePoint Services Installed.

I click OK and both dialog boxes disapppear.

I have, as instructed, removed the Server 2002 extensions and have not
yet re-installed them.

I have no idea what Windows Sharepoint Services are, and as far as I
am concerned I do not use them - do I?

All I want is to be able to create webs with FP 2003

I may sound desparate, but I appeacite your help.

P.S. Do you have an Email contact for where i can get FP server
extensions 2003 with all the patches, or even an Internet address to
download everything I need ( I have fpse02_x86_ENG.exe

You must configure the extensions for the default web via IIS MMC, then selecting the default web,
then All Tasks, then Configure extensions.

Do not attempt to create a new web, as you can only have a single web under Windows XP Pro IIS, this
is http://localhost. However you can have any number of subwebs / subsites.

To create subwebs / subsites, open http://localhost in FP, then create a folder call "test", then
select the folder, right click and select convert to web / site.

I do not see 'Configure Extensions' under All Tasks - I do see 'Check
Extensions' and after clicking this I am told that:

Checking web
http://
Check log:
No problems found

Thanks for explaining that.
To create subwebs / subsites, open http://localhost in FP, then create a
folder call "test", then select the folder, right click and select convert to web / site.

When I try to do this I am told I do not have permissions to access
this web folder location.
