why can't I delete a slide layout in master view 2007?

In 2007 slide master view, I have a dozen or so slides in view. The first
five are being used in my current presentation. When i go through the
remaining list to delete slides that I know I will not use, the right click
"Delete Layout" is greyed out - any suggestions why or what I can do to get
rid?

The layout may be in use. Hover over the layout in the thumbnail pane and
you would see which slide is using it..
