Why can I no longer delete a line of text when it is highlighted?

I always used to be able to delete an entire line of text by highlighting it
with my mouse and either simply pressing delete or beginning to type my
replacement characters. Maybe I clicked something I didn't mean to, but I can
no longer do this. I can only delete sentences one character at a time. Very
annoying.

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Typing replaces
selection." But note that Delete should work in this case; it's Backspace
that won't work. If Delete doesn't work, either, then make sure to clear
both of the check boxes for items referring to WordPerfect on the General
tab of Tools | Options.
