Why buzz A: drive?

D

Don Phillipson

A 300 Gb external hard drive connects via USB to this Asus P8P
custom build (WinXP SP3). On disconnecting via keyboard
(Systray Icon to Remove) the A: drive seeks something (it.
buzzes and its function light comes on for a few seconds.)
Any idea why? Perhaps EXPLORER is polling all drives
regularly?

When my wife parks the car, it goes bang, bang, bang, when she hits
the other cars. Perhaps you're lucky your drive only buzzes.

Well I don't know if parking makes the drive light go on or not.

You might consider system explorer which says what program is doing
i/o writes, reads, and other. Maybe this is part of that. Version
1.5 looks like enhanced Task Manager, and v 2.36 or 2.31 is arranged
differently and has more features.

Let me know if it answers your question.

Check your anti virus settings ?
Yep- it's most probably the antivirus. Several of them have the
setting to check the floppy drive for virii on shutdown or when other
devices are attached/removed.
