I have just downloaded and installed Yahoo Messenger but cannot run it. I've
opened the install log anad the last few lines read as follows:

RegDB Key: Software\Yahoo\Pager\defaults
RegDB Val: 1
RegDB Name: FirstLogin
RegDB Root: 1
You do not have access to make the required system configuration
modifications. Please rerun this installation from an administrators account.
User Rights: Admin

I am logged on as an administrator, so why has this happened? Please help!!

With all windows software from microsoft, thier are "Administrators" (users
with OS privilages),and then thier is the "Administrator" account. The "s"
makes
all the diffrence...Why some pc require asministrator cmds & other pcs let
administrators edit the software (permisions) beats me,but yours is the
later.
However,1st,uncheck windows messenger from add/remove windows compon-
ents.To do this & install the software, tap the F8 key on start up,select safe
mode with networking, enter xp as administrator...

What incredible garbage, Andrew E. Windows messenger doesn't have to be
removed to install Yahoo Messenger. "The s makes all the difference". Now
that is hilarious.

To the OP disregard everything/anything Andrew E. says. He is one of our
resident trolls.

A quick way to verify if the system recognizes you as an
administrator is to right-click on "Start". If the window that pops
up has the option: "Open All Users", then it thinks that you have
administrator privilege.

I have exactly the same problem.

As I am a sole user, with only the one user account set up, I thought
Administrator rights would apply apparently not!

I have done John's test and I am recognised as an Administrator.

What is the resolution to this problem?

Resolution to what problem? You have replied to a thread without quoting
the message to which you reply so there is no context. Besides it's not a
good idea to add your question to someone else's thread, called hijacking.
Create a new thread including all the relevant details.

I didn't think it was, either. Here's Wikipedia's definition:
Thread hijacking is the act of trying to steer a web forum discussion
thread off topic by discussing a subject entirely unrelated to the
subject at hand.

Since PapaG was simply posting that he had the same problem as the OP,
it could hardly have been more ON-topic :) Knowing that others are
having the same difficulty can help in troubleshooting and it's surely
better for the posters, respondents and future sufferers searching for
answers to deal with one thread rather than several simultaneous ones
scattered all over. Given that Kev's original post was only three days
old, the suggestion that people with identical problems should each
start their own thread on the same subject is a bit daft, IMO.

Now that I've hijacked the thread :) to get back on topic: Kev and
PapaG, any luck with the link John posted?

I will resubmit later today.

Apologies for apparently breaking the rules.

Ok, I won't argue about if it was a hijack. But you should post a new
thread with your issue.
