why am i receiving each e mail twice

every e mail i receive is coming in twice how can i put this right is it
something complicated or just a box which needs to be ticked somewhere I am
not technically minded hope some one can help otherwise my box will fill up

All depends on your configuration which you did not specify.
What type of mail account(s) do you have configured?
Version of Outlook?

the outlook is on office XP pro 2000 is this what you mean by version

Office XP is Outlook 2002
Type of e-mail account? POP3, IMAP, HTTP, Exchange, Other?
Got more than one account configured? Same type different type?

thanks again for your reply it is pop 3 and there are two accounts both on
POP3 one only set up recently

Are they using the same POP3 server or is the second one a real separate
account or just an alias on the first? If so configure only one account to
receive messages in;
Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Setup-> button Send/Receive-> button Edit...

Thanks very much for your help i have followed your instructions which were
clear enough for a thicky like me to understand and everything is back to
normal now Cheers Mo x
