Where is the normal.dot file hidden. Adobe has installed a load of crap in
it without asking and won't let me delete it from the Macros.

Using Office XP on Windows XP.

In Word 2002 and 2003 in Windows XP, the default User Templates folder
is "C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUsername>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates", but in Word you should click on Tools |
Options | File Locations to see where your User Templates folder is.
Even if you know where it is, you will need to enable display of hidden
files and folders in Windows Explorer or My Computer to see it.

Adobe (assuming Acrobat) does not add anything to normal.dot (which is
stored in the hidden folder indicated at tools > options > file locations >
user templates). It installs an add-in.

The 'crap' you speak of is presumably the toolbar content that actually
allows Acrobat to work from within Word and thus makes it more useful than
one of the free applications like PrimoPDF.

If you are using Acrobat 7 or 8 then the installation did ask if you wanted
the add-in. The installation is fully customizable. You chose to ignore it.

You can control when the toolbars are displayed when you are not using the
Acrobat tools and the link that garfield posted shows how according to
version.

Thanks, that's useful, I know what to kill off now.

All the same I neither need or want it there and as it creates another line
of tools that effectively steals my screen area I want them gone. Deleting
them from the toolbar does not work as the next time I open Word they come
back.

Its acrobat 6, I chose the customisation option but had no choice about
this.

thanks, have killed them off now.

You can't delete them from the toolbar, but with Acrobat 7 & 8 you can turn
them off until required from view > toolbars. You can also park them at the
end of one of the other toolbar lines so don't take up an extra line,
