Who's in charge here?

I'm very new to Access security, so please bear with me. We are using Access
97, and there is a permission problem. All of our other databases are
running smoothly, but one database disallows access to any of the tables. I
check, and it says I am logged in as Admin. It also shows Admin being a
member of the Admins group. Somehow, the Admins group lost Administer
rights, and I can't figure out how to restore them. When I click the
Administer rights, it says I have to have Administer rights to do this. I
also noticed that the change owner tab in permissions lists every current
owner as "unknown". I can't give my self permission because I don't have
permission... despite the fact that I'm part of the admins group. Is there
any way to restore administer privileges to the admin group without already
having it? Thanks!

You (as Admin) might be part of the Admins group in the MDW file that you are
using, but you are probably not a member of the Admins group that the MDB cares
about. The Admins group in every non-default workgroup file has a different
internal ID. A secured MDB will only recognize the one from the correct MDW.

Assuming that you are using the wrong MDW file, the fact that you can open the
file at all means that security was not set up totally restricted. Have you
tried importing all of the objects into a new file?

I tried copying over one table, and I got the same error. It says I don't
have copy permission, because I need read design permission for it. In the
permissions, it has no permission boxes check for user "Admin". I can't see
what grou "Admins" has, because it says I need administer permission to view
it.

Afraid you're stuck unless you find the proper workgroup file and use it with a
recognized account or use a utility or service to hack into it.
