Who "owns" 'my' system, and why can't I own it?

I

Ian Borland

My system cost me £800 over a year ago, and provided me
with much pleasure and satisfaction - until recently.

Now, it won't play the music it used to.
Won't send the e-mails it used to.
and basically, has turned into a time-waste, a waste of
money, a slow PC, a dog of a computer. The internet is
wasted on me now, it is no use anymore. Microsoft does not
want to know, any more than the supplier of the equipment.

My baby, my precious machine, my toy, my games machine, my
communications forum - is defunct, it is delinquent, it no
longer functions, it is jammed, it no longer sings.

I am the depressed owner of an £800 paper-weight.

Thanks!, I say to the brainboxes who can design viruses to
bring the www and my poor sad, expensive PC to it's knees.
I long to find you up a dark alley way and torture you to
death. (anyone wanna join me?????)

My issues:- ?

I had paintshop pro running nicely, ver 4, I admit, but
legal and all I wanted or needed. Now the system "hooks"
are gone and PSP is just a memory.

The hooks?, could have been that disc I got off that
magazine, that took out the Spyware. don't know, could
have been, might have been, never worked since.
How did the spy ware get in there?
Why should someone have the rights to put programmes on my
computer?
How could I be so niaive as to not think of robbing
people's houses when they were out (or in)?
How niaive I was.

Oh, thank goodness for the mercies of the anti-virus
squad, Thanks for removing the viruses, and the hooks that
used to allow PSP to run. (was it you?)

How come my music no longer plays?
How come the trax I taped so lovingly no longer are
recognised by Windows, which sends me to the www to find
a "help" solution - yet sends me to the manufacturer of my
PC who is not listed and costs me yet more time to be
online.
Why did that happen without my approval?
I only recorded the music under wma titles, but it no
longer plays. Why?
Why does the software manufacturer no longer care?
Why does the hardware manufacturer no longer care?

"The day the music died"

I got Spyware, tracking my every movement.
I got viruses, messing up my machine.
I got updates, screwing up my music so it no longer plays.
I have e-mails, blocking up my inbox and giving me viruses.

Who cares?

Not bloody Microsoft, not bloody Advent, that's for sure.

Can anyone help me - PLEASE????????

I had my machine shutting down, so I got the update for
Winblaster32(or whatever) and installed that, now nothing
works.
PSP has given up.
E-mail has slowed to a halt and is unusuable.
Furthermore, my music won't play.

I could just sit and cry.

Please help!

Lost and frustrated of Anglesey.

Have you tried the latest release of ad-aware and spybot search
and destroy?
After those, do a full system virus scan - here's a useful
online scan:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/

You should select "Detect unknown viruses (heuristic) "
and "Neutralize Trojans"

evaluate your pc after these steps.
If necessary, you can run the command
SFC /SCANNOW
this command will check all protected (system) files
and replace them if they are wrong.

Do you have the full XP cd, of the manufacturers recovery disk?
You could try the repair install if the former, or follow the
procedures on the manufacturers disk if necessary.

Was your version of PSP an adware version? If it was, it's very
possible that it would cease to function if you removed the spyware!
Try and be aware of what you are running and you're strongly
recommended to avoid the adware versions if at all possible.
