White background in display

No matter what I set the background display to and select
apply, the background remains white. I can see all the
icons but the background is white.

Any thoughts,

Hi Holly,

I'm going to ask you something that may sound rather
stupid but I want to make sure I understand you. When you
say "background", are you refering to the desktop
background or a window folder box background?

If you are refering to the desktop, when you click right
click on the desktop, select properties, then the
Appearance tab, are you sure the "Item" drop down box is
set to desktop? If it is and the color doesn't change
when you click apply, than I'm not sure what else to
suggest except to take a look under the Background tab and
see if you have "none" selected.
