While surfing, IE 'hangs' when clicking links

Since a few weeks, we have been experiencing problems with Internet Explorer
on some XP Pro PC's. When opening IE, everything works fine, but after
clicking a few links, IE suddenly shows only a blank page and the status
indicates 'Ready'. Any attempt to open another page, either from favourites
or by typing a new URL fails - the page just stays blank and status remains
'Ready'.

We've had this behaviour on 3 PC's so far (all XPXP2 with IE6); we are in a
network (behind ISA firewall, using integrated authentication) with
AutoUpdate enabled, so my guess is some recent update may be the cause of
this problem...

First eliminate any spyware.

Spyware or virusses are not the problem here; both are checked regularily
and not present on the systems with these problems.

A damaged Winsock stack is obviously not the problem either, since only IE
shows this behaviour; other browsers (Firefox) work fine, as well as all
other network operations.
