While browsing, how do you edit a web page on the fly using Frontpage?

Anyone?

I'm having trouble editing a web page on the fly while
browsing.

From the IE toolbar, I select Edit with Microsoft
Frontpage for the particular web page. IE launches
Frontpage, gathers my user name and password, then
downloads the web page from the FTP server. I edit the
page in Frontpage, click the Save button, browse back to
the FTP server via the Save As dialog, and click save. I
then get the following error:

"Frontpage does not support saving files to FTP servers.
Use Publish to copy file from any open web to and FTP
server."

What in heavens does that mean? Under the File menu there
is a "Publish Web" command, but it is disabled.

Note, none of the .htm files reside on my local machine.
I do not have what Microsoft calls a "web" on my machine.

I've got to assume that editing web pages on the fly
(while browsing) is a common task and can be done.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks much!

It mean what the message is telling
- you can not edit page thru FTP in FP, you must edit them locally and FTP them

The only way you can edit them on the server is if your server has the FP SE and you open the Site (not a page in FP) plus publish
the site using FP http mode (not ftp)

OK. Thanks. That was what I was afraid off.

I work as part of a distrubted team and all our design docs are htm's that
live on a remote server. This has worked well when I was the only person
that needed to maintain the docs (i.e., I would edit my local copy and
upload using my FTP client). But now QA is involved and they need to
maintain the docs as well. If we could simply pulldown the docs from the
remote server using IE, edit them and save back to the remote sever in
Frontpage (similar to what you can do with Word - Save As - FTP Locations),
we could collaborate much better.

Not looking to add the overhead of setting up a "web" and installing the
server extensions.

You would still need some sort of web server to maintain security
Look at hosting you content under WSS - designed exactly for what you are doing
