Which Settings for Best Quality Capture of Cable Movies

I've been reading and experimenting a little. I've got a question about
settings for best quality captures of movies on Cable.

Am I better off using 720x480 with a bitrate that would fill a DVD with a 2
hour movie (somewhere around 5 MB / Sec) or using 352x480 with a bitrate
around 4 MB / Sec.

I'm looking for the BEST Quality I can get. Using the 352x480 settings I
can see a degradation in picture quality.

Thanks .... Macky

I'm no expert, and you're posting in the wrong group, but I like
capturing TV shows and football games at 720x480 AVI (I use iuvcr for
capturing, and the Huffy codec). I have 600 gigs of hard drive space,
and a three and a half hour (give or take) football game uses up
around 120 - 150 gigs of space.

The higher the res.and/or bitrate the better the
capture. I use 352x480 @ 4.05Mbps to fit a one
hour TV show on a CD or six hour long episodes
on a DVD. If your setup can capture the movie at
6Mbps and 352x480 (Half D1) you should get a
very good result.

alt.video.dvd.software

Luck;
