Works for me in XP - not the most effective cleaner but 4.1a works

Oh sure, it may work. But it's not supported. So when it messes up your
registry, as it eventually will, don't look to Microsoft for help. You'll
have only yourself to blame.

Far and above, JV16 Power Tools. Used to be free but now there is a small
fee for it. However it is many tools in one. And I might add you will
never worry about it causing any kind of problem. It has a restore feature
and you can select what you want to delete from the registry which the
cleaner finds.
As far as I am concerned this is bad advice. I have used several 'Registry
Cleaners' and the only one to give me problems was RegSupreme which is the
'cleaning engine' of JV16 Power Tools. Fortunately I always backup the
Registry using ERUNT and no damage was done. The problem was repeatable and
I advised the program authors who were singularly unhelpful.

I may have had a 'one off' problem but to say "you will never worry about it
causing any kind of problem" is an unfounded statement. The usefulness of
Registry cleaners in WINXP is very doubtful, they are a placebo. If you are
not entirely confident on how to restore your system in the event of a
Registry problem, don't run a 'cleaner', you won't miss anything.

Many false statements in your reply.
1. RegSupreme is NOT the cleaning engine for JV16 Power Tools.
2. There was/is only ONE author for the registry cleaner.
3. Registry cleaners are a placebo is entirely false. Why do you think
Microsoft developed one?
4. No confidence on restoring the registry is required with JV16 Power Tools,
it is built in.
I suspect you have this mixed up with some other registry cleaner.

Isn't it strange many posters that say registry cleaners are no good also say
you can't speed up your system with a cleaner?.
Yet, they won't use a stop watch and check. I suspect they don't know why
there is a registry in the first place.

I suggest you visit www.macecraft.com.

You are entitled to your opinion even if it is totally incorrect.

I am unaware that Microsoft has written a Registry Cleaner for WINXP,
perhaps you will be kind enough to post a link?

Perhaps you will also refrain from posting BS.

Note that "Unknown" did not say Microsoft developed or wrote a
registry cleaner for WinXP. Microsoft did in fact write a registry
cleaner but it was primarily for Win98/WinME. (regclean, dated
12-30-97). Although it seemed to work OK for Win2000, MS withdrew the
file from its download center.

I think Mr. Thompson was being ironic...this is an XP newsgroup, you
know, and MS has withdrawn the file, as you point out, so what might
have been relevant in the past is no relevant now.

Perhaps you didn't notice that this NG is about WINXP. Unless specifically
stated I think it reasonable to assume all comments refer to WINXP. Perhaps
you are a mind reader but I'm not.

Only partially true. While it is about WINXP, it is so in a GENERAL
sense. Thus many other things impact upon our discussions, and registry
matters as well as antivirus programs and a host of other GENERAL
concerns can be said to be indirectly related to WINXP discussions.

So a discussion or remarks about software (in this case a Registry Cleaner)
that is designed for another OS is relevant to this NG? That sure is going
to open the flood gates! WinMe is less relevant to WINXP than DOS.

Sure is in this case. RegClean was not written for Windows XP but
there are many (maybe hundreds?) people using it on Windows XP and I
believe that would make it relevant.

Go for Norton Utilities which comes with Norton's systems Work. You can't go wrong with tried and tested products. The reason M$ stopped supporting old Reg Cleaner is because it was crap! It was written by a bored M programmer who wanted to prove to his peers that he is a good programmer to keep his job.

Hope this helps.

Hi All,

I have XP + SP1. I use Microsoft OLD RegClean.

Is this the Best Registry Cleaner Available? Or If not which one I should Go
For my XP System?

Thanks
