Which programs use/call the Microsoft file ks.sys?

How can I find out which programs (if any) on my computer need the
Microsoft file "ks.sys"?

I would like to delete this file, but would like to know if any of my
current programs depend on it.

Thanks,
Art

As far as I can find it is some kind of multimedia driver. Where is it located in the System32? And why do you want to delete it in the first place?

It's statically loaded by a number of dlls, so you'd have a job getting rid
of it without causing problems
eg drmk.sys, portcls.sys etc

"Drivers" not "dlls" that probably should have read

It is possible that the presence of ks.sys on my machine blocks SP1 from
being offered. Microsoft is, I have read, working on an update of ks.sys
to solve this problem.

If none of my programs rely on ks.sys, then I will delete it in order to
get SP1 through Windows Update.

Thanks, Jon.

I'll leave it alone, and wait until Microsoft fixes it before upgrading
to SP1.
