Which Oversize (A3) Scanner to buy

M

Milt

I want to buy a consumer grade A3 size scanner (one that will scan
scrapbooks up to 11" X 17". All those I can find are older models
which I presume will be fairly slow. They seem to be USB 1 or Scuzi
card connectons. Does anyone know of a newer, fast ovesize scanner?
Thanks for your help...Milt

If you'd like something even slower than that, I have a parallel-port
legal-size scanner that I've been trying to get rid of. Talk about slow!

Adorama just one 11x17 flatbed scanner, an Epson for $1300

You might try Amazon too

Sorry I can't be more help.

Just because a scanner has SCSI, do not assume it is slow. The latest
SCSI specs (Ultra 320) can move 320 MB/s, which is a lot more than USB
2, which is rated for 480 Mbits/s, or about 48 MB/s.

So Ultra 320 SCSI is 320/48 = 6.7x times faster than USB 2.

I'm not saying there are fast SCSI scanners (I expect there are), but
SCSI is a very fast interface, that makes USB 2 and firewire look very
slow in comparison.

Thanks for the SCSI info. Didn't know that! Milt

SCSI has had a lot of revisions. The earliest is I believe 5 MB/s, the
latest is 320 MB/s. I very much doubt there are any scanners capable of
generating data at 320 MB/s.

I had an old UMAX consumer grade SCSI scanner, which came with a really
cheap and horrible SCSI card. I thought of dispensing with that and
using a decent SCSI card. I was told by Umax that there was nothing to
be gained putting it on later card, as the data rate was limited by the
mechanics and not the interface.

The point I was trying to make is not to dismiss something just because
it is SCSI.

Good luck.
