I realize this is the wrong group but perhaps someone could direct me to the
appropriate group.

I am interested in "cleaning" up an old bogged down computer's Windows 2000
system. Thing like old inactive registry entries, even new one not being
used, or anything else along these lines. It is a borrowed laptop I am
getting ready to give back therefore anything I do must be 100% safe for the
system.

Thanks in advance... Bob

To locate the appropriate Windows 2000 newsgroup, do the
following.

In Outlook Explorer, click on the Tools menu on the toolbar at
the top of the window.
Click on Newsgroups on the menu that drops down.
Enter win2000 in the search box.
Scroll down to the bottom of the list and click on the
win2000.general newsgroup.

If that doesn't work, go to this web site and click on
win2000.general.

While we're on the subject of newsgroups, you might want to
take a look at this web site.

Why and how to crosspost

As for your question, any useful advice you receive cannot
claim to be 100% safe. Odds are that the laptop is "bogged
down" because it has been infected with some sort of malware.

Good luck

Windows 2000 general, but be advised the "registry cleaning" advise is
the same or more emphatic, DON'T DO IT! Win2K doesn't have SystemRestore
to easily put back the erroneously removed entries, AND it wouldn't make
things better.
