Which MotherBoard for Core 2 Duo?

T

Talal Itani

Hello,

I am putting together a fast, quality PC, with a Core 2 Duo 6600, DDR2 800
Memory, Raptor hard drive. I do not know which motherboard I should use. I
do not do any gaming, yet I like a quality fast motherboard. Currently, I
have on my P4 an Asus motherboard, and I am happy with it. Please help me
walk through the maze. Thanks.

If you are after a bargain, see "Anands Picks" on the lower right of this page.

The current recommendation is Gigabyte GA-965P-S3.

There are customer reviews of the product, here (mobo on sale for $109):

Anandtech also does reviews of the boards. This graphic, for example, is
test results for a bunch of Core2 Duo boards. There are no significant
differences in the standard test results shown here. But you'd want to
look at the individual motherboard reviews, to see if any of the boards
were cranky or hard to get along with.

This article reviews a few of those boards.

If you like lots of bells and whistles, there are motherboards costing
$250 to $400 as well.

The Asus P5BE-Deluxe would be a very good board for your useage. It's based
on the Intel 965 chipset.

You must make sure the mother bord has the right # of pins and
supports the chip if the chip is not supported it will not work and
you will be out $200
