Which mid range graphics card?

Upgrading to AMD XP 2800 Barton on (possibly) an Asus A7N8X Delux Mobo and
512 Mb mem
I'm not a gamer.
Currently looking a something like the MSI GeForce FX5600 256 mb
I'd be glad of comments/advice/opinion ref a decent graphics card.
Thanks.

What do you want to use it for? You've said you're not a gamer - are you
not interested in the 3d part at all? In this case, all you'd need is
the cheapest you can find, something like Nvidia FX5200 or ATI Radeon
9200SE based card (usually with only passive cooling). Some of the cheap
cards don't have very good output quality though, you could also get
some Matrox card which always have good output quality.
If you do want a decent 3d performer, don't get the FX5600. And 256MB
video memory is a complete waste of money in that category without any
benefits at all. If you want a decent performer from nvidia, get at
least a 5700 non-ultra. Likewise, from ATI, at least 9600XT (9600Pro or
plain 9600 aren't bad neither but the former is hardly cheaper than the
9600XT and the latter no longer available).

Thanks for the advice. Yes, although mainly office work with some
photo stuff..will do the occasional game.

For good 2D, it's hard to beat a Matrox P650 or G550 for that matter.

Hi,
I recommend the radeon 9600 for you. If you feel like really pushing the
boat out go for the 9600XT which costs about 20% more than the 9600.

Ok, many thanks all - am slowly coming to the conclusion I don't need such
an advanced card - as per Roland - something like a NvidiaFX5200 or
Radion9200 would probably suffice.

Hi,
you *SKIN-FLINT*!!!

Dig deep brother, you never gonna pull any chicks with a
Radeon9200/NvidiaFX5200. Any pimp wouldn't be seen *DEAD* with anything
less than a RADEON 96xx or 98xx Bling Bling. . .c'mon just sell some extra
ass and get yourself something decent. . .

Word!

BTW: Nvidia. . . .you better watch your back coming in the *hood* and saying
that sh*t :p
