SymNRT is OK when used properly, Pete - see this link....

See the effect of SymNRT on BITS:
http://www.google.com/search?q=symnrt+bits

One of many examples:

http://www.botmanfamily.net/~aurelien/articles/BITS_reinstall.html

"This document describes how to re-install the Win XP SP2 BITS
(background intelligent transfer service) service if it gets corrupted.
The symptoms are: Microsoft Update suddenly stopping working, and
manually starting the BITS service (see [0] below for how to do this)
either gives a code 2 or a code -2147024894 error.

....*almost everybody confirmed that the _Symantec_ _“symnrt”_ removal
tool is the root cause of this particular service corruption."*

I can't discount the possibility that running SYMMSICLEANUP.reg and/or
MSIFIX.bat will prevent SymNRT from corrupting BITS but I'm surely not
convinced at this point.

The question has to be asked - was BITS working before they used the SymNRT
or not? Norton is renowned for screwing heavily with the registry, and if
people allow the Norton registry 'fixer' to run without a tight leash, then
it WILL break systems.
