I have recently been reccommended to use two different
Anti-virus programs, the first AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
and the second Avast 4 Home Edition.

Which of the two in peoples opinion here is best? Both are
free to non-commercial users like me, so that is the first
pro for each.

Any thoughts? Please let me know!!

Thanks

Alex.

Alex....

I have been using AVG 6.0 (free) for about a year, with
absolutely NO issues. It was recommended to me here from
a MVP. It friggin' RULES! I highly recommend
AVG/Grisoft!

Cheers

To be honest, you can't go far wrong with either one at the price. More
people I know use AVG however, and they all seem happy with it. But then as
they're both free, you could try both and keep the one you prefer; I always
think that, if you can assume both programs are reasonably good at their
job, the "best" antivirus program is the one you feel comfortable using,
after all, when things go wrong and there is a bit of pressure on, you need
to be sure you know how to use the tools you've got.

I personally use avast!, and it finds viruses in places other programs did
not - for example, neither NAV2000 nor AVG detected viruses received via
email - avast! detects viruses all the time, which is great for me. So, at
least in my experience, avast! has worked better for me than other
well-known programs.

AVG DOES auto detect email viruses.....btw

I use AVG and it has detected e-mail viruses. You must turn on e-mail
scanning for it to do so. I have not used avast, but I have no need to look
further than AVG. It does not bloat the system and is updated on a, near,
daily basis.

AVG says it is not needed to detect email attachments.
Because when you open the file, Resident Shell can detect it like other
files... ...........I have tried it, dont worry.
I think avest is good too, but AVG is not bad, you know??

Try both, see which you find most convenient; keep the other in reserve
when you are really suspicious about something
