Alex

I have recently been reccommended to use two different
Anti-virus programs, the first AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
and the second Avast 4 Home Edition.

Which of the two in peoples opinion here is best? Both are
free to non-commercial users like me, so that is the first
pro for each.

Any thoughts? Please let me know!!

Thanks

Alex.

Alex,
I have used AVG for year or two, it has never caused me any
problems with operation or updating. I can't vouch for the email checker
as I use Thunderbird.

You can get test files here http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm .

Alex,

Norton Antivirus. The cheapest version you can get - the one with NO extras.
It may cost you ~ $20-30.

Norton 2004 *is* a virus.

First, I agree with Ron. NAV 2004 should be avoided. I would even go
as far as saying anything Symantec should be avoided.

Of the two, I like and use AVAST. I especially like the way AVAST
does auto updates in the background. Since both programs are free,
try them out and use the one you like best.

I think AntiVir antivirus is better.
Its from Germany, simple interface.
Avest is like for children.
AVG is good but it likes to scan your computer..
If you havent try AntiVir, it is my suggestion..
If you have only two options, I say AVG is better..

I've tried almost every free antivirus product available over the
past four or five years, and have settled into using AVG. It gives
the least problems, the virus definition updates are frequent, and
the on-line update feature works well.

I agree. Too bad they bought up Drive Image. What a tragedy that
is. They will ruin it, just as they ruin everything they touch.

r,

I would leave Norton alone, besides, that has nothing to do with the choices
offered by the OP.
