I am having problems with Norton SystemWorks 2006 Premier. consequently I
have been looking for similar programmes. The best I have seen so far has
been System Mechanic, are there others I should evaluate?

Your computer would benefit from not having any program of the type
installed..

Agreed. You are better off learning how to maintain and run your computer
wisely than to let someone else do it for you.

That said, Norton System Works contains two components that you should want
to know about: Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Ghost. You absolutely must have
antivirus software running on your computer, although it doesn't have to be
Norton Antivirus. And you may want to learn about backing up with imaging
software, although you don't necessarily have to use Ghost.

I'm using the paid-for version of AVG anti-virus software and find it to be
very satisfactory. AVG also has a free version which is on my wife's
computer (also WinXP) and it does well there also. And I use Webroot
AntiSpyware which consistently catches spyware and adware for me. These
would help anyone, I believe.
