Any help appreciated,

Microsoft have created new groups which are version-independant.

microsoft.public.windows.servers.* are the ones you are looking for.

Thanks Marc, ok - I'll ask here then )

I have just setup a windows 2003 server and its all running fine - no major
problems as of yet.

I have it setup as a domain controller on a small lan (2 machines - dont ask
) ) - I have now joined my client machine (running windows 2000
professional) - to the domain.

I am having a problem with sharing directories.

I have a directory on the server that holds backup information - I have the
directory shared to 'everyone' with 'full control' - and whilst the client
machine can both see, and access this directory I'm not convinced things are
correct.

I use MS Money on the client machine, and previously (before 2003 upgrade) I
was successfully writing my money file back to the backup directory on the
server. Initially I couldnt do this since the upgrade, but after adding the
client to the domain I can now see the directory, and for example write a
..txt file to it.

However in Money when I open the file (which works) - it wont allow me to
add any transactions to the file - thus I believe that perhaps my
sharing/permissions are not correct.

I've checked the actually file permissions and they are not set to read only
etc.

If anyone has any ideas I would welcome them - and my appologies if this
isn't really the correct group etc - I will keep an eye out for the windows
server 2003 ones if and when they appear available via my ISP.

Regards

Rob

Managed to sort it myself - it hadn't occurred to me that I would need to
select the 'domain' on the client machine before logging in - as soon as I
did that it was ok - well - I could update the MS Money file anyway - for
some reason it plays the sound file through the computer speaker instead of
using the soundcard - and there's no icons for any of the installed
programs - but that aside!)

It's "microsoft.public.windows.server.*" newsgroups, and if your ISP doesn't
have them yet (as mine doesn't either) then you can use the news server
"msnews.microsoft.com"

Only reply by newsgroup. If I see an email I didn't ask for, it will be
deleted without reading.
